<title>TRAKS and FoBK Meet Dato Bandar</title>
		<link>http://traks.org.my/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=79&amp;Itemid=2</link>
<description>Traks and FoBK caught up with Dato Bandar Dato&amp;#39; Fuad today at his office to get an update on the progress of the gazette for Bukit Kiara. The Dato Bandar informed us that the local and structure plans have designated the Bukit Kiara as green zones. However, the amalgamation of the seven lots to form the Taman Awam Berskala Besar(TABB ) is continuing. The main challenge for the government are the lots already leased to Measat and the Polo grounds. Based on our discussion with the JLN and the Dato Bandar today, the threat of losing parts of Kiara are still real and possible. It is difficult to imagine the Equestrian Club not using their influence to main control and even possibly develop their portion further. It is a question of their rights having being given a lease versus the governments promise to develop all 7 lots to form the TABB. The land currently leased to the equestrian club is an important access point for people coming from Jalan Bukit Kiara(Kerinchi Link). So, losing this important piece will mean that TABB can only be accessed from the Ttdi side. The land leased to Measat(4K)was originally going to be a training institute of some form. Hopefully, Measat will be agreeable to re-site the building. We must continue to observe and be very vigilant to ensure that Bukit Kiara(what&amp;#39;s left of it) is not exploited for commercial interests. TRAKS, TTDI RA, FoBK and other NGOs must continue to work with the government to ensure that the amalgamation of the seven lots to form the TABB is successful. <title>TRAKS Meeting with Jabatan Lanskap Negara</title>
		<link>http://traks.org.my/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=78&amp;Itemid=2</link>
<description>TRAKS with FoBK and TTDI RA had our first meeting with the National Landscape Department(JLN) today at Level 15, Plaza Permata. This is our first meeting with the authorities as they have just assumed administrative and management control of Bukit Kiara. The main issues discussed was the on-going gazetting of Bukit Kiara as a Forest Park. We also touched on the tender for the security guards, rubbish and cleanliness and the monkey population.- The JLN have confirmed that the process for gazette is on track. They have checked the photos of survey work forwarded by TRAKS but are unable to identify the parties responsible. They however, confirmed that the surveyors were not engaged by JLN or the PTG. -The contract for the security guards is targeted to be awarded by year end. TRAKS have asked that the scope of works should include that the guards will be responsible for keeping the grounds around the guardhouse clean. In particular, are the slopes behind the guardhouse and &amp;#39;Rubbish&amp;#39; to be cleared before handover to the new guards.- TRAKS also asked for the JLN to replace the existing bins with &amp;#39;monkey-proof&amp;#39; bins.- TRAKS also recommended that the trees planted under the HutanKita programme require closer management and supervision by the JLN. The meeting ended with a promise that all parties will work closely with the JLN on all matters relating to the management of Bukit Kiara. From Left: Huang YH(TRAKS), En Mansor(JLN), Hajah Rotina(JLN), Mr Liew Khooi Cheng(FoBK), Henry Goh(TTDI RA) and En Zakaria(TTDI RA) </description>

<description>Date: Sunday 6 December 2009Time: 8.00amVenue: KDCF shelter (see directions below) Please join us for our final trail day of the year for Phase II of the KDCF trail this Sunday. Our trail is almost complete, although much work will still have to be done in the coming months for the finishing touches -- such as putting in additional erosion control measures and removing deadfall etc. Some of you might be interested to know that Pat and I came across two tortoises along the trail last Saturday -- I think they might adult Spiny Hill Turtles (Heosemys spinosa). The tools of choice will be parangs, rakes and proper changkuls. Saws and shovels may also come in handy as a second tool. Sturdy shoes are recommended - no flip flops please.
